I’m Shari McBurney, a birth doula and childbirth educator devoted to caring for pregnant people as they build their families.
Over the past 14 years, I’ve been witness to more than 825 births, specializing heavily in births at Newton-Wellesley Hospital (where about 80% of my client care takes place) and Mount Auburn Hospital. Having taught childbirth classes through NWH’s Wellness Center and supported hundreds of labors across both hospital systems, I know the rhythms, unit cultures, and options at NWH and Mount Auburn inside and out.
My approach to doula care is deeply shaped by my background in professional culinary arts and hospitality. To me, supporting a family in labor is the highest form of service: it’s about anticipating your needs, creating a warm and grounded space where you feel safe, and taking care of the fine details so you can focus entirely on bringing your baby into the world.I believe the best birth experiences happen when parents feel informed, heard, and held by a unified team. Through collaborative advocacy, I build strong, respectful partnerships with your OB/GYNs, midwives, and nurses so your voice remains at the center of your care.
